What Are The Health Benefits of Running?

There are a million different exercises, routines, and techniques you can use to get fit these days. All you need to do is take a look in a modern gym to see the kind of equipment they have on offer, each giving you different health benefits. But sometimes, it really is good to take it back to basics. Running is one of the simplest activities we can do, and although it feels hard, our bodies are perfectly designed to do it. So why not consider adding running to your fitness routine?  Here are some of the benefits that it can offer:

It Burns an Amazing Amount of Calories

Being such a high impact activity, running burns more calories than just about any other type of exercise. If you want to get fit and become healthier, running is the way to go. It also means you can do more in a short space of time. If you don’t have lots of spare hours in the day going for a ten minute sprint, you’ll burn just as many calories that most activities take in half an hour or even an hour.

You Can Experience ‘Runner’s High’

Runner’s high is a real thing; researchers have shown that this is the way our brain responds to running. It’s a hardwired response, most likely a result of when our ancestors needed to chase down and hunt food. The brain releases endorphins into the body letting you experience a natural ‘high’… which feels great!

You Can Do It Anywhere

Whether you prefer to exercise at the gym, at home or indoors you’re always able to run. Every gym will have treadmills. Alternatively, you could buy one yourself from a treadmill supplier, or a shop that sells exercise equipment. Better still, lace up your running shoes and go for a run outside! It’s an exercise that you can do anywhere, so whether your budget is big or small, running is an excellent way to get fit.

It Improves Every Area Of Your Body

Running is incredibly good for the cardiovascular system, giving the heart and lungs a thorough workout. It improves bone strength and boosts immunity by oxygenating the blood and flushing out toxins more quickly. Plus running shapes and tones just about every area of the body. While running is focused on the lower body, it also tones your core, back, shoulders and even arms too. So as well as providing amazing health benefits, it also makes you look fantastic too!

You Can Take It At Your Own Pace

Even if you’re not ready for marathons or sprints, the good thing about running is you can go at your own pace. You can even start by walking if you need to. Build up to a gentle jog, and eventually, push yourself to run for certain amounts of time. As you get fitter, you can increase this time until you’re able to run for longer distances.

4 Quick Habits for Eating Healthier!

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be so difficult. Normally, we stray from our nutritious diets because there are too many temptations put in the way of us. If you get rid of temptation, you’ll find that eating a healthy and balanced diet is a lot easier to do. In fact, you could end up eating a lot healthier without even noticing! Here are four tips that can help do just that.

Hide Sweet Treats

If you see unhealthy foods, you are going to be constantly tempted by them. So take any cookies, chips, and candies out of sight. Hide any sweet treats that you have in cupboards that you hardly go in. Try to put bowls of fruit and nuts out on display on your kitchen surfaces. That way, you will reach for a healthy snack whenever your tummy rumbles.

Don’t Throw Away Leftovers

Throwing away uneaten food is a big waste. If you don’t finish your meal, keep the leftovers to have for lunch the next day. You can also keep ingredients that you didn’t use for another recipe. Leftovers usually have a good shelf-life when stored in a fridge. To extend this shelf-life, you should place them in your freezer. One way to keep them for a lot longer is to vacuum pack them before you store them in a fridge or freezer. To do this, you need a vacuum sealer. Try to get the best vacuum sealer (here are some with reviews) that can help you store food for a few weeks.

Use Smaller Plates

One of the main reasons people have issues with their weight is because they eat large portions without realizing it. So to make sure you aren’t overeating, serve your food on smaller plates; here’s a great study that showed that we tend to overeat due to the size and color of our plates (shocking! I know). Be careful not to pile all the food up high on your plate, though! At first, you might feel slightly hungry after eating off smaller plates. That is just because your body is used to large amounts of food in one go. However, after a couple of days, you will get used to it and will feel full after a smaller meal. No matter the size of your plate, though, ensure half of it is taken up by fresh fruit or vegetables.

Drink Lots Of Water

Water is key for a healthy diet. You need to aim to drink at least eight glasses of pure water a day. The more water you drink means you won’t need to drink sugary or caffeinated drinks to stay hydrated. There are loads of ways you can encourage yourself to drink more water. One of the best ways is to keep a water bottle with you whenever you leave the house. That way, you won’t need to buy a drink while you’re out. If you don’t like plain water, try sparkling water. It tastes like a fizzy drink but doesn’t have all the hidden sugar.
